Healthspan

Live well for longer.

Lifespan is how many years you live. Healthspan is how many of those years you live with autonomy, clarity, and energy. The medicine of the 20th century extended the first. Contemporary medicine answers for the second.

The Middle Window

In Brazil, healthy life expectancy hovers around 65 years — total life expectancy, around 76. The gap is more than a decade lived with functional decline: pain, dependency, cognitive frailty, sarcopenia. Closing that gap is the agenda of healthspan.

It is not done with anti-aging promises, exotic supplements, or proprietary lab panels lacking validation. It is done with the few markers literature has shown to be predictive: cardiorespiratory capacity (VO₂ max), grip strength, appendicular muscle mass, ApoB, fasting and post-prandial glucose, hs-CRP, measured sleep.

The most valuable window to intervene is between 35 and 55 years old. That's when insulin sensitivity begins to fall, muscle mass declines ~1% per year without training, sleep fragments, and the first cardiovascular markers shift — but it is all still reversible at low cost. Waiting for symptoms means trading a cheap intervention for an expensive one.

Healthspan, at Plenya, is a measure — not a slogan. Every clinical decision passes through the Plenya Score: over 800 items organized into four pillars (Activity, Alimentation & Smart Adjuncts; Clinical Optimization; Tending Mind, Body & Bonds; Sleep, Rhythm & Recovery). Follow-up is longitudinal — we compare you with yourself, semester by semester.

Perguntas frequentes

Frequently asked questions about healthspan.

  • Lifespan is how long you live. Healthspan is how much of that time you live with autonomy, clarity, and energy. Conventional medicine optimized lifespan in the 20th century; the 21st-century challenge is closing the distance between the two — today, on average, the last 8 to 12 years of Brazilian life are lived with significant functional loss.
  • No. Anti-aging medicine promises to reverse the clock, often without solid evidence. Healthspan is a measurable agenda: cardiorespiratory capacity (VO₂ max), strength and muscle mass, metabolic markers, cognition, sleep. The focus is extending the phase of functional fullness, not chasing immortality.
  • The most robust in the literature: VO₂ max (the strongest predictor of all-cause mortality ever studied), grip strength, appendicular muscle mass, ApoB, glycated hemoglobin, hs-CRP, vitamin D, omega-3 index, measured sleep quality (not just duration). The Plenya Score integrates over 800 items in this direction.
  • The most valuable window is between 35 and 55 years old — before damage takes hold, after liver metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and muscle mass begin to decline silently. But the approach is useful at any age: at 30 for construction, at 60 for reversing what is still reversible.
  • Yes. The Continuum is Plenya's structured program for healthspan — six-month or annual, with a multidisciplinary team (physician, nutritionist, psychologist, and exercise physiologist), specific labs, individualized exercise plan, and longitudinal follow-up measured by the Plenya Score.
  • It does not promise a cure, does not promise to reverse established diseases, does not promise immortality. It promises to give you evidence-based instruments to reach 70, 80, or 90 years old with more autonomy than expected for the average of your generation — which is, in itself, a transformation.
